Emergency Dental Care — Here When You Need Us
What Counts as a Dental Emergency?
Dental emergencies are conditions involving your teeth, gums, or jaw that require prompt attention to:
-
Stop ongoing bleeding
-
Alleviate severe pain
-
Control infection or swelling
-
Prevent further damage to your teeth or oral structures
Typical emergencies include knocked-out teeth, severe toothaches, fractured teeth, abscesses, facial swelling, or traumatic injury to the mouth.
What to Do Immediately
-
Call us right away — Let us know it’s an emergency so we can prioritize you.
-
Rinse gently with warm salt water to clean the area.
-
Control bleeding by applying firm but gentle pressure with clean gauze or cloth for 10–15 minutes.
-
Manage swelling by applying a cold compress to your cheek (10–15 min on, 10–15 min off).
-
Save any broken fragments — if a tooth is broken, collect any pieces, rinse gently, and bring them with you.
If a tooth is completely knocked out:
-
Hold it by the crown (not the root).
-
Rinse it with water (don’t scrub).
-
Try to reinsert it if possible; if not, store it in milk, saline, or your mouth (between cheek and gum) until you reach us. elmendorfrichardson.tricare.mil+2Cigna+2
In the event of severe trauma, broken facial bones, or life-threatening swelling affecting breathing, seek hospital emergency services immediately.
Our Emergency Services
-
We make every effort to see true emergencies as soon as possible.
-
During your visit, we’ll address your most urgent concern first (pain relief, infection control, stabilization).
-
We handle many emergency treatments in-house—such as temporary restorations, extractions, repairs, root canal treatment, or prescribing antibiotics/pain medication.
-
Some procedures may require follow-up visits to complete full restoration.
Hours & How to Reach Us
-
We accept emergency calls during regular office hours.
-
After-hours or if the office is closed, we maintain an on-call system for patients.
-
Call our main number and follow the prompts to reach our emergency line.
-
Please identify yourself as an existing (or prospective) patient and explain your emergency.
(Insert local hours, phone numbers, and after-hours protocol here.)
What Patients Should Know
-
Be honest & detailed: Describe your symptoms (pain level, swelling, how/when injury occurred).
-
Insurance & pricing: We work with many insurers. Emergency visits may incur additional cost—check your coverage and call us for estimates.
-
Follow-up is key: After your emergency appointment, return for definitive treatment (crowns, full restorations, etc.).
-
Prevention matters: Use mouthguards, avoid chewing hard objects, attend regular exams to catch issues early.
